My husband is considering a new position with a company in Newport Beach, CA. We currently live in Central London with our three children (6, 4 and 1). His work hours will basically be 5am-4pm daily. I am searching for private schools with a formal atmosphere and Christian education. I do not currently work but would like to in the future - I have a past in arts administration as a fundraiser. We lived for seven years in Manhattan, NYC. Never been to CA but visting next week. We are considering both Laguna Beach (because of its close proximity to Newport) and Manhattan Beach (because of its more city-like qualities and its proximity to LA. Cost of living is not an issue. Help!

Manhattan is big city beach.
Laguna is a coastal paradise.
Both are gorgeous in their own way and both insanely expensive. You have to visit.
Thanks for the response! I will see which way I am swayed next week. I was hoping for a bit more info on the two, but I guess I'll have to judge for myself... Thanks again, S
If you want to provide your kids with a good, Christian environment, perhaps you should consider Newport Beach itself. All three (Newport, Laguna and Manhattan Beach) are equally expensive, so it's a wash financially. Newport has easy access to transportation facilities (John Wayne Airport, trains, and several freeways) and is safe, beautiful and clean. Manhattan Beach is nice, but with little or no real open space except of course for the ocean. It is also very close to Los Angeles International Airport, which is very noisy. Laguna is beautiful, but probably not the best of the three in regards to a Christian environment. It's quite liberal in fact as well as the furthest away from L.A. and isolated in regards to access. There are only two roads out and it can be quite an ordeal getting into and out of in the summer. If you like gridlock traffic in the summer season, then it's the place for you. So despite Laguna's beauty and Manhattan Beach's close proximity to L.A., I think Newport would be the best all around place for you. #1 Newport, #2 Manhattan Beach, #3 Laguna Beach. Hope this helps!
I would suggest just living in Newport itself, as the other poster mentioned. Less commute time in SoCal = better life and a happier husband. Since the cost is not an issue, just stick with Newport, it should give you everything you need. Being close to the airport ( Santa Ana -SNA ) is a huge plus as well.
She's gone...long time ago about 9 hours after her first post.
You guys had 9 hours to provide her (sutton) with a fully detailed demographic report on both cities. Then correlate that into a specific recommendation of where to live with pros and cons for each city without any info except christian values and an art history background. FREE OF CHARGE.
She even gave you an extra 10 minutes...... and you failed her.
