Let's see, free college tuition and universal healthcare (both admirable goals) to be paid how? Huge tax increases for the middle class (or what's left of it) and the wealthy.
Add the threat that newsome, deleon, rendon etal, would overturn prop.13 if elected, what will be left of your income?
No doubt they would love to "appropriate" all income and give us a few dollars a month as basic income. How else will they be able to maintain their spending frenzy?
Even Brown is skeptical of the proposed universal healthcare bill. Of course once he terms out and one of the brown shirt cluster gets in, it will happen.
So called "free stuff" (we all know nothing is free) appeals to the ca voter these days; I'm just going to ride it out as it should be interesting to watch.

Admiral goal as is free college. The expense factor makes it completely unfeasible. But, hey, don't let that stop you from signing over your income to the state.

Don't forget Universal Basic Income which a lot of liberals have been arguing for. Mark Zuckerberg just called for it during his Harvard commencement speech...no word on how many of his billions he will be contributing to it though

California lawmakers introduce single-payer health care plan today

As usual California being a progressive State is debating to provide universal healthcare for all . Senate Bill 562’s

After the Congress got rid of affordable health care and millions might lose health care coverage due to their anti social care policy.

Yes, I am aware we are going to pay more taxes but the bottom line is we are already paying more taxes in CA and not getting decent health care coverage from the greedy insurance providers or worse those people working part time no healthcare for them .

Please share your thoughts ?
The cost of this is more than the state takes in taxes every year.

I have no desire for government health care. They do everything else poorly, why should I expect them to be good at health care.

No, "we" won't. I will. Some other Californians will.

But not the incoming hordes of impoverished illegal aliens. Nor the hordes of impoverished legal arrivals, from other states and other countries, who will flock to California for free health care.

exactly. Tax burden isn't actually going to effect the people using the benefits , it's going to effect those that don't need the benefits. And we aren't exactly talking about robbing the rich to pay the poor because the people that will be hurt the most are the middle class who are already struggling to survive in CA. Which is why no ballot measure will pass even in CA

The disconnect between fantasy and reality is getting ridiculous in CA. If they took 90% of everyone's income in taxes (except of course those they determine don't have to pay anything at all) they still couldn't balance the budget.

The Legislative Budget Office said this could be paid for with an additional 15% payroll tax.

Would your employer willingly pay the 15%--or would it be passed to you as a deduction to your pay? Even if it were split 50-50 it would be a huge hit to my budget.

Neither does the bill address all the extra doctors, nurses, clinics that would be needed if everyone were suddenly covered. There's not been much increase in facilities since ACA started and this would add all the illegals to the mix. Good luck getting an appointment anywhere.

Of course the State could save money if they have DMV handle the paperwork--that would work, right?

$400 billion dollars. That's the cost to fund a universal healthcare system in California. News reports tonight said Sacramento lawmakers are pushing for it but still haven't reached a firm conclusion how to fund it. Ideas though are: $200 billion of existing state, federal and local funds could be repurposed to go towards it. The additional $200 billion would need to be raised from new taxes.

Yeah I trust them to fund and pay for this thing. After all they've done such a good job with the gas tax, why would this be any different? If anyone has any brains they'll scuttle this monstrosity.
