On the state flag, is the California Brown Bear or Ursus arctos californicus, a now-extinct subspecies of a bear still common to a large portion of North America. Following the re-speciation of the Gray Wolf to Yellowstone by using a larger subspecies of the exinct Yellowstone Wolf, the Canadian Gray Wolf, it would be prudent to immediately release breeding pairs of the largest known subspecies of the Brown Bear, the U. a. middendorffi.

Where would the bear live? Where would it be safe for these bears to live in CA?

Only if we have, beforehand, a thorough understanding of the likely impacts on the ecosystem into which such a repatriation attempt would occur.

Only thing that changed is humans shot the last one in the early 20's, kinda like them wolves in ID, MT, WA etc. The brown bear belongs in California's ecosystem.

Start with places like Barstow, Fresno, and Bakersfield. Once we prove it can acquire a taste for human, then we can start moving them into the bigger metropolises.

You still haven't explained where he would fit in, safely. The Siskiyou mts., maybe? Where in CA is there enough wilderness? You're not being a very good advocate for your cause.

I actually pondered this some years ago. The problem is not lack of space; we have more than enough to sustain a sizeable population of black bears. The problem is where their native habitat is located. The brown bear was more apt to range the coastal lowlands. Not sure if grizzleys cruising State St in Santa Barbara will work.
