There is no comparison!

Sacramento is better in every single category, it is light years better than both. If you were to move to Rosevile or Rocklin, it would be ten light years better. These two suburbs of Sacramento are very safe and nice!

Sacramento is the capital of the Central Valley. Sac is in another stratosphere compared to these two cities. Sac has a lot going on for itself. The air is better, and the proximity to other places is just as better.
Sacramento is the obvious choice.

Yes, Sacramento overall is the better city. 1.5-2 hours to the Bay Area. Tahoe/Reno a hop and skip away.

But if it's important that you be near LA then Bakersfield should be considered. LA is only 1.5 hours away.

Do not live in Modesto if you value your life.

Because its homicide rate is the same as Fresno, but lower than Stockton or Sacramento?

As the OP did not give any factors leading to what they are looking for, I would go with Sac as it is now in the running. Prior to seeing that I was leaning towards Bakersfield. When I lived in Fresno I would go kick around Bakersfield just to have a break from Fresno

Well, if you're adding Sacramento to the choices, then I'd say Sacramento, no competition there.

Fresno is better than Bakersfield. I've lived in/near the suburbs of both, preferred Fresno.

If I were going to drive 1 3/4 hours I could find better places for a break than Bakersfield.

I was young then

I had a client last year who had moved here from Bakersfield and I thought she was going to need CPR when I told her I would go to Bakersfield to have a break from Fresno.
