Where in SoCal is there a western subculture besides places like Acton, Lancaster, and Quartz Hill? Western wear is completely appropriate in places like these, I think because there are actually still cowboys. The Antelope Valley Fair and various local rodeos tend to draw these people from the woodwork.

Where else in SoCal is these still this western flair?

Lots of places. The Central, Salinas, Carmel, Imperial and Santa Ynez Valleys are some that come to mind. Norco's another. A lot of Mexicans all over CA favor that style. My family dressed that way, even in Orange County, at appropriate times like when we were doing horse related stuff. It was a part of our heritage.

I suspect .highnlite will show up shortly to give you his take.

Yes, I know. I misread the question. Since this was the main CA forum I was thinking the whole state. There's a common thread to it though, that in pretty much any rural part and in many towns away from the Coast Western wear isn't that out of place. I'd probably go a little more low key in some places, like just jeans and boots with a button down or plain Western shirt and no hat, or just a baseball cap.

As a kid, I loved the Antelope Valley Fair and thought it was pretty unique, particularly the tractor pull.

Bakersfield and the rest of Kern County.

From there you can sneak up to Clovis easy and take in Big Hat days and the Clovis rodeo.

Careful. You could be corrected that those aren't SoCal.

So if you said you were going "to The City" would they think you were talking about San Francisco? That's one litmus test of non-SoCalness.
