But the downside is they're considering upgrading San Francisco and Los Angeles - the antithesis of population decline and open spaces. Sometimes you just can't win them all!

By the way, I agree with you about those who pined for the fifties and sixties. I think of a lot of that has to do with the much lower populations of those times.

Then by all means I think that the Los Angeles sprawl with all its attendant problems should be replicated in the San Antonio/Austin corridor, post haste. In fact, better that it be lifted from Los Angeles and sent right away. I imagine that your tune would change, and a rapidly.

Is Texas so hard-up for commerce, manufacturing and a tax base that this is really what it wants?

I'm promoting the Aux Arcs as a refuge for hundreds of thousands of us. We demand Trader Joes and luxury car dealerships.

Texas is beating you. Someone is actively recruiting for the San Antonio/Austin corridor on several sites. I offered him L.A.

Y'all folks would get a warm reception. Hunting season is starting up.

Works for me. I don't have to live there. Two tours of duty there were at least one to many!

I could not care any less about social or financial class mobility, or familial/independent wealth, the labor class or anyone wedded to social services. In fact, I am in favor of massive reductions in social services.

Of course "some of us are unwilling etc" just as some of us are willing, and others of us don't care or think about it at all, that is human nature.

Your post sounds like someone read some Karl Marxian material, and transliterated, not exceptionally successfully.

I am not very concerned about the needs of mankind. I don't care much about mankind, people manage, people survive, people prosper as they will, or will not.

If the worst possible scenario occurred, life in America would still be better than most of the world, through most of history.

I do like the idea of needing a 4x4 to visit Los Angeles.

If you read through the posts of those who complain about California, their complaints are typically vague, but many refer back to a mythological "golden age" perhaps the 1950's or 1960's.

Now I could make the case that their argument is based on returning to a white majority, fewer Mexicans and or Asians etc, but I won't try to make that case.

Instead, I think it is clear that what they want is the days of lower population, in that I concur whole heartedly.

Less people, fewer taxes going to the state, fewer services needed or supplied. Now some have argued that the legislature would simply borrow money. Yet, the state's credit rating should crash, making borrowing difficult.

I applaud the decision of each person who leaves the state, it is a grand state to wander 'aboot' in.

There are 62 paved roads from which to choose for departure

For someone who says they "do not care", you are a most prolific poster...

Again, likely you will not let other's statements disturb your assumptions and grand proclamations, but there are some who do not agree with you...

...which is the point of this board...
...to read and potentially understand other interpretations and conclusions.

Regardless, rather conveniently, you have not so deftly avoided answering my only question of you (after you made a bold statement)...

Please post a workable plan, whereby you provided for current, or even reduced state outlays now and for the next decade (dynamic to a smaller static state), given where current taxes come from...

?

I am not deriding you. I honestly want to know how YOU think this could/should be done.

I would like to make this simple. I don't care. The simple departure resulting in tumbleweeds blowing down Sunset Blvd is sufficient for me.
