Yep, spent some time at Kings Canyon NP last week. They had record snowfall this year and it had actually snowed the prior weekend. So waterfalls and rivers are raging. There were patches of snow still on the road in places and I hiked over some snow on the trail as well. But Summer is finally kickin' in the High Sierra and it was melting fast. It's a beautiful time to visit the park.

There's no way it could be if it's in Kings Canyon.

Isabella is much more deserty-looking to boot.

David is correct. This is Hume Lake near Grant Grove which is higher elevation at 5200', hence the snow. They have both campgrounds and a Christian camp there which we stayed at. It's a good central location to access the upper redwoods ( Grant Grove and Redwood Canyon) as well as the valley floor rivers and waterfalls.

Derek, beautiful photos! As for Mammoth, I was there last week and they are still skiing till July 4. That's not that uncommon for Mammoth, however.

I remember being in the San Bernardino Mountains as a teenager in 1991, and there were snow patches on the shady northern facing trails at about 6-7000 feet -- in July!

There is still snow patches in the mountains in the San Gorgogorio Pass between Palm Springs and Banning (north facing slop at the top towards 1-10). It's visible from the freeway, as is snow in the San Bernardino Mts when looking at them from the Coachella Valley floor where it's 115!

Nice photos!

I can remember snow on Baldy on the 4th of July. Visible from Orange County. Sometime in the 70's.
