CA is so big, so I'm not really sure where to start, but I'm hoping to meet these criteria:

-I'm tired of the bugs and humidity of VA Beach, so a place that doesn't have many pests, low humidity, rarely goes above 90, sunny, clear days, but just enough rain that things are green, and experiences the Fall season

-A population under 200k with houses not exceeding 350k and houses that aren't right up on their neighbor (.25 acres+)

-Good schools, low crime, sense of community, fairly friendly, nearby recreation (bike paths, trails, boating/lakes)

-Near bigger cities, not rural

-Near IT jobs

Thanks for any help

I don't really know anywhere in CA where you can find all that in one place. Somewhere outside of Sacramento maybe...but it get's hot and I'm not sure if the housing will be that cheap. What kind of IT jobs are you talking about? I really sounds more like you want something away from the west coast.

Wow...and "ya'll" call northeasterners rude, obnoxious and abrasive? Perhaps, you just dislike where you live or are trying to prevent anymore of us outsiders from joining in. Ceecee...thank you for the only non sarcastic, appropriate response. Were the rest of you from the northeast? I thought these forums were a place where one can obtain information and help....oops!

I would first search for jobs and then once you have a job interview I would look into the area to see if you like it. Also you didn't say anything about family. Having to go back and forth for visit gets old really quick.

I don't really think anyone was obnoxious or rude - sarcastic maybe.

I think that wish list is the problem. Good [public] schools are hard to find. Houses with land are hard to find, even without the price requirement (which, given the other requirements, is low.

California is extreamly expensive, and mostly over populated. I've traveled all over this state and I can't think of anywhere where you can find everything in your list.

Income and house would be related of course. I just figured I needed to throw out some figure for house cost to get the most relevant responses. Our incomes would be higher there, but I haven't calculated what the home cost would be.

It would absolutely be great if I could meet all that criteria, but maybe I'll have to stroll fantasyland with sick of cali to find that. I'm practical and am just looking for something similiar to what I already have in VA, but with better, less humid conditions.

Why do so many people on this board seem so pissed off? Just curious. The other state boards I've been researching aren't really like this one.
