Maybe the high desert? I *had* a 5 bedroom house in Hesperia I was renting at $1450/mo. It was a brand new home and I thought I should have been able to get more for it than that, but the management company I hired showed me stats and so forth to support the fact that I was at the top end of the rent scale at $1450. So, you might want to check the high desert as far as 4-5 bedrooms for a cheap rent. I can't tell you whether the school are good or not though, but I haven't heard a lot of good things about the schools.

All I can say is Congrats on leaving Indiana. This state is a dump. Good luck on your move. (sorry I had to).

Why do you need to be in LA? There are less expensive areas of CA that will get you much of what you want.

Exactly. There are many nice areas in California. L.A. is not a place to move to with the requirements of a small housing budget and good public schools.

I would suggest yucaipa, beaumont or banning. Stay away from the san bernardino area.

I lived in California many years ago and wish I had never left. Anyway, I just wanted to say, "I'm sorry regarding the death of your mom."

Since I don't know what you do, I'm not disputing the above but I still think you're risking overconfidence and maybe hubris, at least for the "applying and qualifying for employment" as you won't be the only ones who meet that description.
