National Trust for Historic Preservation names a Buffalo neighborhood in its top 11 Most Endangered Places list. Is this a good or bad thing for B-lo? I am not informed about it.

Peace Bridge Neighborhood (http://www.preservationnation.org/travel-and-sites/sites/northeast-region/peace-bridge-neighborhood.html - broken link)

Get a new design. The last thing we need is more of our street grid design and historic buildings, homes, people and jobs destroyed. Get a design that won't be so hurtful to our great city of Buffalo.

yeah, it hasn't started yet, but is proposed. I mean do the people in power in Buffalo actually like to see it rot to nothing?

A long time ago, when engineers said we didn't NEED a new Peace Bridge, a politician (I beleive it was Sen. Moynihan) said 'well, it looks safe, only do we know what is happening UNDERWATER?' (or something to that effect). The result was the insanity we have now.

The Peace bridge often "runs" half empty as half the booths are closed ( I know people who work there). It is not falling apart. We don't need to tear it down for a silly signature bridge ( realistically, who will come to look at it -- I saw one almost identical to the planned one in Savannah and was not impressed). If there was really a need for a new bridge, it'd have been built long ago. If they need to build one, just make a twin to this one. You also don't need to tear up the neighborhood for a plaza. Keep the one we have and just open the booths.

yeah, and actually this may be a bit far-fetched......but could Buffalo be trying to imitate its a bit less down-trodden, more financially stable neighbor a little over an hour to the east-Rochester. Rochester put in a new bridge (well actually re-built one) which actually has gotten local attention re: its architecture (it is a nice bridge, but nothing spectacular at all) that has added to the skyline, etc....although it didn't cut off any neighborhoods.......who knows what people think.

The "Frederic Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge"

aka.....Douglass Anthony Memorial bridge

aka.....DAM BRIDGE!!!

that's a joke by some of the people who find the new Troup-Howell (that's what it was called before, and it is a lot easier to say than it's new official name) bridge a waste of money and (while still under construction) a major pain for traffic. Personally I really like the bridge and how it adds to the skyline. Now, if Buffalo decided to build a new tallest skyscraper TOTALLY changing its skyline like we're doing (new Paetec headquarters downtown, 35 stories) THEN I would say you were copying us. lol
