lot's of historic places as well - delaware park casino - do they still do weddings? I do know a great photographer? If she needs one - oh and also the botanical gardens is a goegeous place for an evening wedding...
ok, anyone else know if the Marcy Casino is nice, any personal experiences, etc???
One place nobody else has mentioned is the Butler Mansion on Delaware... I've seen pics from weddings there, and it looks really nice!
The people at Marcy Casino were super-nice when my sister and I were looking for a spot for her wedding reception. I think we nixed them because the room we wanted wasn't available when she wanted it. It's a different kind of space, but they are very flexible with options and have lots of pictures to show you.
I myself got married at Shea's -- had both the wedding and the reception there.
The reception of course, but she would like to get married in a smaller historic church - close to the reception and one that seats about 250 people. Also, would you recommend Rich's Renaissance for the reception? Anyone hear of it?
My sis and I also met with the people at Rich's Renaissance, and they were also super-nice. A friend of mine got married there, albeit about a dozen years ago. It's neat in that it has an outside look, with the gazebo, the trees, the waterfall, etc., yet it's inside so weather won't be a consideration. I do remember from her wedding that it's very hard to hear in there, though, with the waterfalls and the acoustics. And my BIL didn't want the reception there because the area around it is so ugly -- it's plunked down there on NIagara Street with nothing attractive around it. For myself, I didn't see why it mattered... but they ended up with an outdoor wedding out in East Aurora; he's just not a city person.

Wow, Shea's sounds nice but a bit large. Thanks for the extra info on the Butler Mansion - is there a website for it?

Has anyone mentioned the Historical Society yet?
It does seem like a pretty poor area around it, do you think guests would mind? How's the safety? And yes someone did mention the Historical Society, where do you get married in that place? I've heard it's a great place for wedding pictures?

You want a ultra lavish reception and have money to burn, think Samuel's Grande Manor or one of the posh country clubs. [Personally, I don't like Rich's Renaissance. I think it is "new-tacky" .]
What religion? There are tons of beautiful churches, but you need to know the religion. (Someone said the Difranco "church" --Ani DiFranco's "church" used to be a beautiful church. She rehabbed it and saved it -- but it isn't a church now)
She will be checking out Samuel's soon, she does want this to be quite up on the high end scale, yes there is some money to burn so Samuel's sounds quite nice.
Religion is Christian, I know the churches around here are predominately Catholic, but it's basically what she is looking for - a nice small old church that would allow a Christian wedding, fitting up to 250 people.

Churches here are rather stiff about who they will marry -- no matter who the person is, they need be of that faith or that congregation on the most part . While this area is evolving into an area supporting megachurchs ( called just Christian), she better plan on looking for a church of her denomination. megachurches don't fit the mold of "nice small old church" . One of my nieces waited too long and wound up with a town judge marrying her.

I see, thank you for your input we will look into that immediately.

My wedding/reception was fairly small, under 200 people. We had the ceremony at the bottom of the grand staircase, then cocktails and dinner in the area outside where you go in the doors to the actual theatre, then dancing back out in the main foyer. The DJ was up on the second floor.
There is a phone number on there to call for rental information. If you search "Butler Mansion" and "reception" you'll see some links...
