The Sirkosky engineering design center has been built and is being run by CDI-Aerospace. I got a call from them requesting an interview (I'm a MSU mechanical engineering grad from 2003) but opted not to interview. The center is a contract center that Sirkosky is operating while the aerospace industry is hot but will likely close down as soon as aerospace goes into decline (which it will since the industry is cyclical).

There's not much engineering work in Bozeman and especially not too much in industrial engineering. Several of my college friends are working at smaller companies there but many are dependent on government funding, and when the funding gets cut (which happens), they write to me talking about how depressing it is since there isn't much other work. (I work at Boeing in Seattle so I don't have the same problems).

Telecommuting is an option but it's people typically getting close to retirement. We have several telecommuters at Boeing but they are all close to retirement and are being kept on to help sustain us through the current boom cycle, then the telecommuters will get laid off (they are mostly on as contract employees) once the cycle is over.

Bozeman is very expensive - not sure what your finance does but you may wish to consider elsewhere. It's difficult to save enough and buy a house there because both rents and housing prices are expensive compared to many other parts of the country. Of course, it's expensive where I'm at too, but there are more jobs.

Hope that helps.

I grew up in Bozeman and opted to move after I got my Master's Degree as I make double what I would make in Bozeman in a similar city. There really are not a lot of "decent" paying jobs where you could make over $50K shortly out of college (even with a good education). Most people move away from Bozeman after college to gain experience, make money elsewhere and then come back to Bozeman. Some of the jobs that pay better are doctors, lawyers etc. If you need to make more than $50K, you may be looking in the wrong town.

Companies exist here, I know a few engineering companies in the area. Best bet is to look on the job websites, check out the classifieds, as ads are often placed there.
