I'm a New Englander, relocating to Boulder. Love charming villages, historic homes and wide open spaces. Where should I look in the Boulder area?

Honestly, we don't have anything here like you would find in the Northeast. Trust me. We don't have anything I'd consider a charming village. However, you may want to look at the old town sections of the nearby towns: Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont, Niwot, maybe Lyons.

Thanks. I could also do house with land and views. Just not into cookie cutter suburbia. The good thing about coming from the east, is we're used to long commutes.

I hear you. I'm from NY and came to Colorado from Boston. We limited our search to old neighborhoods and stumbled upon a really fabulous place to live. But check out any of the towns I mentioned... just go to the old downtown sections.

We've got homes with land and views out here too -- but you will pay through the nose for them.

There does seem to be a lot of very small lots from the limited looking I've done. Not much in the way of having a large yard. But I might not have seen that section yet.

For a slightly different take on what you are looking for, check out Prospect New Town in Longmont and Bradburn Village in Westminster. Both are new, new urbanist neighborhoods--walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods with interesting architecture. Both have small lots however (some advantages to that when you live in a semi-arid climate believe me).

Both neighborhoods have homes with neo-traditional architecture (in other words new homes in classic "historic" home styles). Prospect mixes neo-traditional with modern, and is unlike any other neighborhood in America. People either love it or hate it. Bradburn is cheaper, 20 minutes to Boulder (Prospect is about 15) but more traditional.

Assume you don't want in Boulder itself due to price, but if that's not an issue look in the Mapleton neighborhood--very cute.

Well, I think we'd all love to live in Mapleton Hill. But at those prices I'd choose to live in Breck.
