I had been looking at the apartmentratings.com ratings for Two Nine North, which seemed relatively positive, but now I'm not so sure anymore. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks for the suggestions, Scrapper. I'd be willing to look outside Boulder as well, but since I'm not familiar with the area, it's hard to know what the towns are like and how close they are to Boulder and other areas. Your suggestions sound like they are worth checking out.

Superior: "Bell Flatirons" (formerly known as The Horizons) and "Saddle Brooke" condos.
Superior (technically in Broomfield): AMLI at Flatirons, AMLI at Interlocken
Superior/Broomfield: Camden at Interlocken
Louisville: "Copper Ridge" and "Grand View at Flatirons"

Best search engines: denver.craigslist.com and boulder.craigslist.com, padmapper, hotpads.
Best rental deals: private persons and houses. Avoid the fat, greedy rental management companies at all cost, if possible. The mgmt companies are so lazy that they don't even invest in designing and hosting their own corporate web site - almost all of them are piggybacking to the same back-end and this discourages competitive pricing even more.

If you are a light sleeper you definitely do not want to be on the east side of Boulder. Here's why... The train comes through several times a night along the east side (next to the Foothills Parkway) and it is extremely loud. I live in Solana apartment complex on Pearl street (near Two Nine North) and this horrid train wakes me up every night blowing its horn all the way as it passes through. And I am not a light sleeper. When I did my research before moving here no one mentioned this to me unfortunately.

Have you checked out Solana 3100 Pearl? I don't know how expensive it is, but I have heard good things. Here is their website: Solana 3100 Pearl Apartments
It is in a great location in my opinion. Right next to a huge Whole Foods, some nice restaurants like Turley's, some fun restaurants like Wahoo's, The YMCA, Target, 29th St. mall ...etc. It is right on the Bound bus line and is a short drive or bus ride (on the HOP line) from Pearl Street Mall. Most of Boulder is safe in my opinion and I have been living here for fifteen years.

Also, you might be able to afford a house in that price range. It would just take a lot of looking. My house is a 3 bedroom, near Baseline and 30th st. I pay 1,650 a month. It is the cheapest house I've come across in a while but if you look for deals there are some. From 2006 to 2010, I actually rented a 3 bedroom in the Newlands neighborhood, on 10th and Dellwood, for 1,495 a month! That's a big deal because Newlands is one of the priciest neighborhoods in Boulder!

I hope this was helpful!
