My wife just landed a full time gig at the University in Boulder and she and I will be relocating from our current upstate New York home within the next few months. We'd be looking to buy a place somewhere within a maximum 30 minute commute to Boulder. I'm a musician and would want reasonable access to Denver if possible.

We don't have kids so school districts are a non issue. Our housing budget would be in the '$300 - $400,000 range with a preference for location versus size...we currently own a 1700 sq. ft. house which is plenty for our lifestyle..

I'd be very interested to hear any suggestions for areas to look at...I've seen good things mentioned about Louisville, Lafayette, Superior, and Longmont...

Are there other areas and/or neighborhoods to consider..?

And I would love to hear any info on the general state of the live music scene in the Boulder/Denver area...I've also taught guitar for many years and my wife has taught voice so we would be curious about any info or experiences folks have had with music stores or schools in the area...

We're both very excited about this upcoming move and are looking forward to any advice and suggestions here..

Thanks,
LC

Default Draw a line

CU + music in Denver

Draw a line between CU and downtown Denver and then think about living along that line.
That rules out: Longmont, Lafayette.

Your budget rules out Boulder.

I would consider northwest Arvada.

Hi Dave,
Berkeley and Denver....I know Berkeley pretty well too..

Arvada was actually on our radar as well, but we thought we'd look a little closer to Boulder for my wife's commute...though the northernwestern part makes sense...

What would a typical commute time be from there..?

Any particular neighborhoods you might suggest..?

Thanks,
Larry

Berkeley in Denver.
No idea on commute times.
Zillow is a good place to start. The filters can help, but most real estate agents lie and list condos as single family.
