Gonna look at Louisville when we come out but don't really like the idea of not really any trees (or just a few) on a lot

No, it's that Boulder Heights is 7 or so miles up the mountain. Pinebrook is only a couple of miles.

You must come to see the area to understand. Once you're on larger acreage, up the mountain, it's a different world from what you're imagining.

You should also think about fire danger before you choose to live in one of the mountain communities.

It's actually pretty nice, tree-wise. But I think you'll be more concerned about the tiny size of the homes and lots, at least in the wonderful 4-5 blocks West of Main street.

We have seven trees on an 8500 sq. ft. lot in Louisville. Any house more than a few years old will have several fairly mature trees.

Oh, wow! It's been a long time since I lived in/near the Burgh.

Climate:

Boulder area: bright, sunny days for the most part; wild temperature swings sometimes from one day to the next; snow possible Sept. through May; can be 70 degrees on New Year's Day and 70 degrees on the 4th of July. 34 days of 90+ degree days/yr.

Pittsburgh: Well, you know.

Topography:

Boulder area: Rolling hills, generally fairly flat until you get to the foothills where the hills rise abruptly.

Pgh: Rolling to steep hills everywhere.

Vegetation:

Boulder area: Great Plains stuff, lots of grassland, Cottonwood trees, grass greens up in the spring (now) and dries up by July, or sooner in a hot dry year. Most people have planted their yards in some type of grass and have planted trees.

Pgh: Lush, green all year round. Thick woods where undisturbed by building.

Lifestyle:

Boulder: Very outdoorsy; favorite sports seem to be running and cycling. Casual dress. Some following of CU Buffs and the Broncos. Eating out popular. Camping popular with families. Skiing.

Pgh: More watersports, Steelermaina, fairly casual dress from what I can tell these days. Camping somewhat popular.

If you ask me some more specific questions, I'll try to answer them.

Also what are the buildings like. Pittsburgh seems to have a lot of distressed buildings needing a good cleaning.

Hmmm, izziguy, it makes me wonder how much homework you've done, if you are asking about the health consciousness of Boulderites. Many people come to the area based on that issue alone, and much has been written and said about the subject.

Ditto to your questions about distressed buildings.

Admittedly, I've never been to Pittsburgh, but it sounds as though you might be trying to compare apples and oranges.

Not wanting to burst your bubble or anything, but hopefully you plan to spend more than just a day or so exploring Denver, Boulder, and the surrounding areas. You just might experience lots of things that are unlike anything you are familiar with...
