The woman i know's office is in Lakeville/Middleborough. She might be hybrid these days...and again not all business takes place in Boston. Much of the business happening in MA does seem to be in Boston but not all...nor does it have to!

i would be curious to hear from white collar people on this forum who moved to worcester/lowell/haverhill/lawrence/framingham from boston like irfox says.

i mean i know they exist but i've never actually spoken to them before. would love to ask some questions.

I'm also sure many of these people who went in different directions also would say they gave up something for something else. How many housing threads start on this forum where someone wants to live in location X with house Y but realizes they can't afford it and ask for advice on a different location that's like X but where they can afford Y?

Some people would stick with X and give up on Y, and others will give up on X to get Y. Quality/quantity, build/location, whatever you want to call it.

I think it would make far more sense to say they have to pick one quality vs. another quality (ie. commute vs. good schools vs. amenities vs. diversity), as opposed to quality vs. quantity.

Great, let's rewrite the age-old idiom to be 'quality over another quality' then. Everyone's happy!

Right, and the state would certainly be better off if business were more evenly distributed. Like if the state was more focused on growing the local economy of Taunton/Fall River and New Bedford vs. spending over $1B for local residents to commute to Boston on a 1950s technology choo choo train (that won't go as fast as they were permitted to in the 50s).

Some people also maybe aren't fully in tune of what is happening in their cities. I made a comment to her once that fall river is kind of rough/has drug issues and she seemed offended and said, it's not that bad. I was like, alrighty then. Perhaps she's in her own bubble or is unaffected and doesn't read the news. Fall River is home to Chris Herren and even he had a drug problem.

That said people with drug problems are everywhere, not just in fall river. Some places/people just have more money to cover it up.

Nah dude. Quality vs. quantity still fits for a growler of Tree House vs. a 30 pack of PBR. For what you are trying to say, not so much.

It would also make a big difference if one had kids vs. if they didn't.
