Which beach area is the closest to Boston? I think there's one with a top-rated boardwalk.

The only beach close to Boston with a boardwalk is Revere Beach. The only other options in the New England area are Hampton Beach (NH) and Old Orchard Beach (ME)

I'm not sure that Revere Beach has a boardwalk...I've never seen one there anyway. It probably did a hundred or so years ago when people actually went there tho
I think Nantasket Beach in Hull is more of what Nancy is interested in.

I agree re Melrose, because if you commute via the Orange Line, you can get off at Ruggles and never have to change trains. Plus by getting on the train at Oak Grove (end of the line) you always get a seat!
