One of my favorite Christmas storie is The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen. It is so sweetly sad and makes me appreciate family and my many blessings.

What are your favorite holiday stories or books?

A Christmas Carol (of course)

There is a book that a friend of mine reads at her Christmas party every year...it's a spoof on The Night Before Christmas called How Murray Saved Christmas (written by Mike Reiss, former head writer for The Simpsons). It's about a Jewish Deli owner named Murray Kleiner that inadvertently knocks Santa Claus unconscious and gamely takes over his duties...screamingly funny. There are always a lot of Jews at the party, and they especially love it!

A Christmas Story by Mary Chalmers
This little book was given to me when I was a child, and I still have it.
It's a simple story of a tree, mostly decorated, which lacks a star; I love the watercolor illustrations.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Dickens' rich, vivid descriptions bring the spirit of Christmas to life. A Dickensian Yuletide might seem over-the-top to some, it certainly has it all: despair, joy, greed, contentment, hunger, and a laden table, searing regret, and gracious good will.
When we were kids, my dad used to read it aloud over the course of a couple nights before Christmas.

Hmmm.....this is hard.
Mostly I can only think of folktales, fables etc.

The Baker's Dozen (coming to my blog soon)

La Befana (available on my blog)

The Christmas Spider (coming to my blog soon)

The Pine Tree by Hans Christian Anderson (available on my blog)

Everything else I think of is an old movie
the 1940's Christmas Carol
the original Miracle on 34th Street
and of course It's a Wonderful Life
