I can't believe this has yet to be posted here.

One of the greatest writers of all time, HARLAN ELLISON, passed away in his sleep at the age of 84.

To echo the words of the master: "B*gf*ck!!"

(Christine Valada is the widow of Len Wein, co-creator of Swamp Thing along with Bernie Wrightson.)

Harlan, or HE, as he's affectionately called by fandom, is/was a writer of such import that his loss is a tremendous one. And I'm not only referring to his fiction, but his NONfiction: his duology on television, The Glass Teat and The Other Glass Teat, along with his books of essays/columns, An Edge in My Voice and The Harlan Ellison Hornbook, are essential reading.

HE was the master of the short story, and no disrespect to all the other fine writers of our time — Poe and Bradbury included — but Ellison dominated the format like no other.

His collections Deathbird Stories, Shatterday, Strange Wine, and Love Ain't Nothin' But Sex Misspelled are mind-blowing.

RIP.

His health had been declining for the past several years following his stroke, so I can't say this news surprised me. It makes me very sad, though.

I’m sorry to hear of his death. One of his stories I renember most is “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.”

Its references are dated now, but this is still the best TV commentary ever written.
