I don't mind a 'dark' book well written. I think "The Secret History" might have jumped off from her time at Bennington College, and reviews call the characters completely unlikeable and disgusting.'
800 pages? Is this a detective book? I think detective books gives understanding to people by making them realize that a detective thinks differently from the others. A detective deduces information and does not take into account a person's viewpoint until all the facts are known. From everyone's perspective. Including those looking in on an investigation being done at a site. That detective must be aware of the surroundings also when making judgement calls about what actually happens. Is this the right way to do it? If it solves and explains a problem on site, then it is the right way to handle a situation. And reading a book puts all of this down in writing so that a person builds on these set axioms, and puts it into practice in his daily living. I'll make sure I look for that book.
