What is everyone's favorite series of books from any genre? I find reading series more enjoyable than standalone books.

Here are some of my favorites:

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher - urban fantasy series about a wizard detective
Harry Potter
Dark Tower by Stephen King
Myron Bolitar by Harlan Coben
The Millenium Trilogy by Steig Larssen
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I've read a lot and I have to say that it gets quite difficult to write a good series.

I would say only HP has kept up the consistency.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Although technically it isn't really a series. It's 1 book published in 3 volumes.

REPAIRMAN JACK. Started out fantastic. I haven't been as impressed with the last couple of books.

C.J. Box's JOE PICKETT series. One of the best ongoing thriller series on the shelves.

William Kent Krueger's CORK O'CONNOR books. Ditto.

Tad Williams's MEMORY, SORROW, AND THORN trilogy.

INVINCIBLE by Robert Kirkman.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN by Brian Michael Bendis. Began as one of the greatest comic books series ever. It didn't end well. But those first 100 issues or so were magic.

Hunger Games
Fifty Shades of Grey
The Twilight Saga
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ( 3 books)
None of these compare to:
Game of Thrones. I can't wait for the sixth book to come out as this series is my favorite!

In addition to some listed above, I love the Inkheart series by Cornelia Funke. Unique premise, wonderful characters. A movie was made of the first one but it was not good, so don't judge the series by the movie.

It's not as good as Harry Potter, but IMO it was at least as good as The Hunger Games and much better than Twilight.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin
The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy (not a traditional series)

I second Left Behind. Great series and I'm not even religious but it did make me think some

Absolute favorite series:

Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy (followed by a 4th book, The Wicked Day)
I've read and reread this Arthurian series a zillion times. I will read them again before the year is out.

Followed by:

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series

George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series

The Chronicles of Narnia

A series I used to read when my kids were very little: Catwings

I have enjoyed other series, but the ones above are my favorites.
