Thank you!

Wouldn't recommend it. Are you a medical student from out of the U.S.?

I think you'd be much better off closer to 20th Street than George Ward Park.

I am a medical student, not from out of US. Actuall, the apartment is located in 19th avenue south, how about this?

19th Avenue and what street? Give us an address and we'll vet it for you.

Thank both of you!

That is a neighborhood that is somewhat in transition. In fact, I had several friends who lived in that neighborhood and enjoyed it. Chances are you'd be safe there, but you should also be aware of your surroundings. That area, while relatively safe, is near some undesirable places.

However, from a security standpoint, I would be much more comfortable living east of 13th Street. Just my opinion, of course.

Good luck!

A bit DITTO on that....is the University giving you any sort of assistance in finding suitable housing? I would be disappointed if they do not have an accommodation for this...especially for med students.

Have you tried the Highland Avenue area? The place you are talking about is 5th street....go east about 20 blocks (city is logically laid out with Sreets running north/south and Avenues running east/west)...and get on Highland Avenue in the 22nd to 33rd Street area. Very nice area...lots of nice local bars, restaurants and a bohemian atmosphere. YOu might as well enjoy your time here while you are working your butt off.

I think you need to get on the ground and really spend some time looking around.

After checking map, I am thinking about the room / or apartment in Mountain brook or highland avenue areas. Is there a good traffic over there? How long for driving from Mountainbrook or Highland avenue to UAB medical school (Volker Hall, 1670 University Boulevard).

Thanks
