That makes sense, because I know for sure that Georgia Tech was announced by several sports news stations as being in the Birmingham Bowl.

I have a serious question about downtown. Is the area around UAB and around where the fountain and Highlands/chez fon fon both considered downtown? Or is that something else.

Because if it's not, I don't know that I have ever been downtown. And come to think of it I don't know if I know anyone who has ever been downtown. but I'm in that area around UAB and then where the fountain(five points-bham version?) a lot, so if that counts as downtown I do go downtown.

Are you seriously telling me you and nobody you know has been to the BJCC, Protective Stadium, City Walk, Pizitz Food Hall, McWane Center, Alabama or Lyric Theaters, Birmingham Museum of Art, 1st / 2nd Ave N restaurants and bars, Civil Rights Institute / 16th Street Baptist Church, Kelly Ingram Park, the Tutwiler / Elyton / Kelly Hotels, Birmingham Public Library, City Hall, Jefferson County Courthouse, or Linn Park??

This can't possibly be true, especially for someone whose posts of late seem to indicate that they know a lot about Birmingham.

In general, the CBD / Uptown / "Downtown" are north of the tracks, starting with Morris Ave or 1st Ave North. Southside / 5 Points / UAB are south of the tracks, starting with Powell Ave or 1st Ave South. However, when I refer to downtown, I generally include both of those areas (roughly the area bounded by I-65 on the west, I-20/59 on the north, Hwy 280 on the east, and Red Mountain on the south.

I mean I can't say for sure that everyone I knew has never been to any of those places. I don't think I have though. Many of those things you cited above are to attractions what manute bol was to power lifting. I mean if I told someone I knew I was "going to the birmingham public library", they would look at me like I had 5 eyes lol......

Oh that's the term....southside/5 points. Well if those things can be thrown in as downtown, I've been to downtown.

As for me knowing a lot about birmingham....eh, I know a lot I guess about homewood and mountain brook. The thing about Birmingham is, unlike some cities, good areas are generally very sequestered from bad or vacant areas. Even if they are very close. Meaning you could live in the birmingham area for 20 years and if you stick to Homewood and Mountain Brook *never* ever go through a bad area.....even then you're only a couple miles away from such for large portions of time.

That's a positive for the area imo.

How does one live in the Birmingham area and not go to the art museum? O_o Next to the botanical gardens, it was always one of those good default options for places to go when bored (free, but good).

The Civil Rights Institute is a once-in-a-while thing, but at least a once.

I'm afraid to ask about Nikki's West, then.

How does a guy live in a city and opine on a city not know much at all about a city?

Not just opine about it, but make unsolicited TEDtalks about everything and anything as if they are the foremost unimpeachable authority.

I haven't been to any of those places I'll admit. And I don't think I'm alone. Especially if you remove the gardens from the equation, I think the vast majority of people from this area haven't ever been to one of the art museum(birmingham has an art museum lol?), the civil rights institute, or nikki's west.

As far as restaurants go, I have been to highlands, bottega, hot n hot, gianmarcos, and tons of other places(birmingham does have excellent restaurants!), but it appears that places like highlands, bottega, fon fon, etc are considered southside and not downtown......
