One new research development already well down the pipeline. This project is an expansion of the success of the Shelby Research Tower on University Blvd. This esthetically is going to really create an urban sense of place.

I don't like to be the antagonist, but the same thing that happened to LIBERTY NATIONAL could happen again.
After all, I don't know the company, but if they are that big they neither need brick and mortar here or the employees.

Not to mention, Protective is one of our last home grown success stories. Most likely their purchase of MONY last year put them in the radar sights of the big internationals.

I fear this, but will hope what ever turns out will be a positive. (but it would not be based here any longer)

Yes, I hope it is just the case of a foreign company that will need an American partner to do business here, similar to way the banks work. I hope it isn't just a way for them to get their foot in the door just so they can move it to another city once they get established.

We should definitely push to become a medical research and development hub. Having something like Houston's Texas Medical Center with UAB, St.Vincents and the Innovation Depot as anchors would be a great boost to the city and its image.

Birmingham has potential to become research and technology hub - Birmingham Business Journal

Derby Pkwy area would be a great place to expand once Southside fills up. Especially with the Race Course in such dire straits and Alagasco bailing out. I would also hope that area would become a high income residential neighborhood within the city limits.
