Hi
I moved to the Big Island 7 months ago, and still have yet to find even one person to just hang out with! I am easy going and friendly, but I have no idea where to meet people here! I have tried looking up places to volunteer, but have been turned away outright or told they would contact me when "events" happens (which apparently is never). I am 24, single, a teacher. I really like Hawai'i, I love the general attitude of the people and the relaxed atmosphere, but I don't know how long I can live here if I don't find a group of people as friends. So could some one help me out? Where are all the twenty to thirty somethings hiding? And what are some good things to get involved in? Oh and to complicate your suggestions more, I live in Kohala. Any response would be great.
Mahalo!

Try joining the Hilo Community Players, they are the folks putting on "Hamlet" in Kamehameha park in downtown Hilo right now. Also go to the bon dances when they happen in your neighborhood. They aren't religious but a place to chat with the neighbors. Be out and about where folks can chat with you and ask them questions and then listen to what they say.

Try going to the U of H hilo campus. A good majority are from the continental US so they're looking to meet people as well. I made a ton of friends while going to school there.
