I visited the Kona a few years ago and remember visiting a bookstore that sold used books and music cds. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the shop. It was in a small shopping complex and the entrance was either on the side or the back of the complex. Does this description remind anyone of a similar place in Kona and if so, is it still there?

Yeah, they moved from where they were. The place you remember was when they were by the small pizza/brewery place. They are about one more block closer to the airport and halfway up the street towards the highway. Kinda across the street from Ace hardware and behind a health food store. They are a LOT bigger now, too so it's an improvement.
