I was floored by this. He has been more underground then Osama Bin Laden since the congressional hearing. To all the sudden come back as a hitting coach is just shocking. He seemed to take the heckling and the media attacks pretty hard, so I have no idea how he will pull this off.
Let's face it; sports fans are a very forgiving group. McGuire will be booed the first few times he appears at visitor's ballparks but after awhile it will all be forgotten. Pro athletes can lie to Congress, abuse their wives, kill animals, etc and they know that eventually they will be back in the same sport, and most likely, with the same organization.
Anytime a young player asks McGwire about how he developed his swing he'll inform them he isn't there to talk about the past...

It should all make for an interesting spring next year.
I for one am glad to see Mark make his return to the Cardinals. The guy has ALWAYS swung a big bat(pre-roids), so I think he will be of great assistence
I'm sure Cardinal fans will be forgiving. As for the rest of the league, I doubt they'll even think about it. He's not playing; he's coaching now, so it's not going to be that high of a visibility as stepping up to the plate. I think he can help the hitters for this next season.
