Attendance figures for Nats home games have been steadily slipping. The local community is clearly not very supportive. Would it make more sense to relocate the Nats to a city that would actually care about baseball? In any case, it seems like more folks in DC are Orioles fans than Nats fans.

The problem with Washington is although the average per capita income is pretty high, it means a relatively large percentage compared to most places are wealthy or semi-wealthy, but most of the rest don"t have ----!!!!!!!!

This is ridiculous. The Nats have the worst record in baseball at 24-56; 19 games out of first place (20 back of the wild card); 9 games behind Cleveland in the win column, the second worst record in baseball.
How many teams draw big crowds with that record? None. The problem with the Nats is not the income levels of the metro, or because people in DC don't care; the problem is the Nats are TERRIBLE!

I don't think it was a mistake at all. In fact, I was rejoicing when the decision was made to move MLB to the nation's capital. Yes, the Orioles are just up the road......so what? The Expos were never going to make it in Montreal anymore, and that relationship had run its course. It was time to get baseball, good or bad, back to this nation's capital. It's not like they're drawing just 5,000 a game; it's just not like that. But they could draw more, and that can only happen with a winning team. Granted, they're not good now, but they will eventually field a contending team, and their fans will be interested. You remember the excitement the fans had in that first season at RFK, so they are capable of selling out games at Nationals Park with the same enthusiasm. Just imagine if the team would only contend.......
It's hard to say that bringing a major league team to Washington was a mistake when you consider the fact that as the Montreal Expos, the franchise was dying. It never occurred to MLB that Montreal was a hockey city first and foremost--and was not going to change. Washington, at the very least, had a baseball history. I'm sure that attendance will not be a permanent problem; it'll increase in proportion to the number of games the Nats win.
Yes, Washington has always had a baseball history. One of a losing team, no matter what decade. If just for a couple years they can produce a contender, it might get the locals finally excited.
Historically, it's hard to root for baseball in Washington, DC and be a basketball fan trying to root for the LA Clippers. It's called cruel and unusual punishment.

That was funny, I guess you pull for the Lions in pro football, and Temple University in college football.
I think there are cities that would support an MLB team more than Washington:
Buffalo
Louisville
Indianapolis
San Antonio
Nashville
Austin
Charlotte
Raleigh/Durham
Omaha
Portland
Plus, those cities do not share a metro area with another team with deeper roots, as the Nats do with the Orioles.
