I agree with you completely. But the old-school broadcasters don't pull in ratings, and since ratings overrule any concerns a genuine fan might have, you can see which way the wind will continue to blow. This also applies to sports journalism; I happen to be old enough to remember when Sports Illustrated was exactly that, as opposed to the prettified parody of itself it's been converted into over the last 30 years.

Their voices will have more character when they're older.

If he's ever given the opportunity to shine, Dan Shulman (ESPN) will be great.

Besides being a completely boring pompous weasel, he has very inherent and often uninformed bias against certain cities and teams (IE Philadelphia and everything related to it). He'd be a nobody if not for his old man.

Old School can be found on the Radio. Enjoyed Jon Miller painting the picture. Thankfully I choose to only hear Joe Suck from a distance -- somebody else's tv.

PS Does Joe Morgan always make so many gaffes? I've been amazed at how unprepared he sounds. Seems as though someone just woke him up. Then again, he's only been a TV guy since retiring, right? That would explain it.

I imagine those of us who were exposed to the likes of Ernie Harwell, Mel Allen, Harry Kalas, Vin Scully, etc. via Radio are least tolerant of Buck because they were capable of "putting you in the ballpark" without the picture (on tv) being necessary. The monotone tv guys opt to insult a baseball fan's intelligence, and seem to be talking to 9 year olds... complimented with graphics suited more for the 9 year olds who were in bed three hours ago anyways.

Truly gifted gentlemen who are becoming extinct to the mainstream, thanks to tv eating the sport up (and keeping us up until after midnight -- AND forget the kids!)

Amen! His Dad was a fantastic broadcaster and beloved in St. Louis. Joe could never even equal 1/1000 of him.
