I don't drink
Well maybe you need to start!

Sabathia-12 wins and an under 3.00 ERA.

So Jair Jurrens is the best pitcher on the planet, right? 12 wins and an under 2.00 ERA

It's pretty amazing that nobody mentioned Jurrjens in this thread. He has the most wins of any pitcher in the major leagues and has the 2nd lowest ERA. How could our combined baseball knowledge have overlooked this guy?

It's the name, Jair Jurrjens doesn't sound like a ballplayer, it sounds like a George Lucas character. He needs a nickname to overcome this handicap. We would have thought of him right away if he was Jair "Nighttrain" Jurrjens, or "The Antilles Express", it would even help if he was just "Dusty Jurrjens."

It happens,we can't remember everyone. It's easy for us when guys like Sabathia, Verlander, Lee, Halladay and some others are so consistent. Then a guy like Jurrjens comes along and he gets overshadowed by the consitent ones even with his solid numbers.

It could be that

Or it could be that he isn't really this good. His underlying skills point to a pitcher who should be giving up 3.5 to 4.0 runs a game.

JJ: K/9 5.28, BB/9 2.03, HR/FB 4.2%, BABIP .256, LOB% 84.1, FIP 3.10, xFIP 3.76, tERA 3.76

He certainly doesn't compare to the other guys that you mention and is very unlikely to continue performing so well into the 2nd half of the season.

Jurrjens is only 25 years old and 49-30, 3.24 lifetime. He may be blossoming into one of the game's premier pitchers.

All signs point to 'no'.

He's a good pitcher, not a great one.

I love the Yankees but how can you say that? When you support a team and they come out of nowhere to win a title like the Giants did, it is so rewarding. Whether you like the Pirates, Yankees or anyone else, it feels great to win. The difference is that we have owners that are willing to go the extra mile to make sure we are competitive. Not all owners are willing to make trades or invest in their teams properly but winning is winning.

Time will tell. The Brewers acquisition doesn't look so great either right now.
