Is there any difference in safety/cost/comfort of the light rail versus the metro? Obviously I know they go to different places.

Thanks!

Both are safe and cost the same. But the subway is much quicker and runs more often.

Yes, but there is only one subway line, and it runs through the stupidest areas. Just in case you're at the harbor, but you can't find what you want so you feel the urge to go to Mondawmin mall... then the subway is the place for you.

At least the light rail actually goes to places that are remotely useful.

The light rail was built along the lowest cost route. I took it from Hunt Valley to the harbor and it ran through a forest a good part of the way.

They should have built a heavy rail down the middle of the JFX with parking lots at Cold Spring, Northern Parkway, etc.

Given that more people take the subway than the light rail. The subway must clearly go somewhere useful.

The MTA is now pushing to develop more mixed use (residential/retail/office) around its transit stops. In the City you have the UB/Fitzgerald development next to Mt. Royal Light Rail; State Center redevelopment will be served by both Light Rail and Metro Subway; Westport will have Light Rail access as well...just to name a few. The new Social Security Adm. Offices in the Seton Business Park at the Reisterstown Metro stop is also part of a plan to bring both residential and commercial office space adjacent to transit. Would love to see more done at Coldspring Lane and Mondawmin Metro stops in addition to Coldspring Lane and Falls Road Light Rail Station as well.

If your doctor is at Hopkins and your pharmacy is in the Mondawmin Mall, it clearly goes somewhere useful.

As long as you're ok with catching a stray bullet in the head while picking up some milk and eggs...
