Purchased an Interstate Battery two years ago, battery did not last but two years. Went back to Sears and purchased a Die Hard. Will never purchase another Interstate battery.
In the early 2000s I bought a 1979 Ford f250 for a daily driver and since then I put over 60 thousand miles on it and I just changed the battery for the first time this fall which was a Power Volt battery which is a brand that I never heard of that the previous owner installed in 1999 and it lasted untill 2009. 10 years for a battery is impressive to me. I replaced it with a Duralast Gold top battery from Autozone which always seem to work well for me so far.
I kinda hate to admit it, but my family has had really good luck with batteries from WalMart.
Their prices always seem to be very competitive, and we've never had them fail to stand behind the warranties.
Also, in our experience, it has been nice to have WalMarts in pretty much every stinkin' town in the universe. My sons both used to do a lot of traveling with various bands, and on more than one occasion had to replace a battery out in the middle of nowhere. Each time WalMart treated them right.
I don't know if I can say Optimas are the best. It seems once they get down past 10 volts, they're done. That's what we used at work in our equipment because that's what the government buys for us.
Why didn't you take your interstate back. They have a 36 month warranty on them. Also just a little side note die hard is made by the same company that makes interstate.
The optima has to be charged over a long period of time if it gets fully drained.
I personally have never seen a battery last more than 2 and half to three years. If you guys are getting 10 years out of a battery, that is is just insane. The only conclusion I can make is it has to do with the weather here. I think the 115 degree summers in Phoenix and Vegas just rip the batteries to shreds.

Could very well be climate... it almost never gets low enough to freeze and a day over 90 is very rare in Oakland CA...
Heat is very hard on battery longevity... I was told the military has specs that take this into account.
Cold diminishes battery output... neither hot or cold is optimal, or vibration.
My Interstates are 84 month batteries... never had one fail in warranty.
I have car collector friends that bought lifetime batteries back in the early 80's... they haven't had to pay for another battery since... I would have done the same, but most of my stuff is 6-volt...
The only new cars in the family... a 2001 Toyota and 2002 BMW both have OEM batteries... BMW's are not known for long battery life...
All I can suggest is move to California or better yet the San Francisco Bay Area
