I must not have lived too far from where you grew up. I mostly grew up in St.Charles but spent my first few years in Itasca. It was pretty well suburbanized by then (1970s) but there was still a horse farm across the street from us. Naturally, that is long gone and to get any kind of consistent solitude you have to head out to the far fringes of Kane County or even into DeKalb County.
Or, I suppose you can set up shop in Montana.
