Detroit Auto Makers Boost Initial Quality Scores (http://www.nasdaq.com/aspx/stock-market-news-story.aspx?storyid=200906221321dowjonesdjonline000 425&title=detroit-auto-makers-boost-initial-quality-scores - broken link)

DETROIT -(Dow Jones)- The Detroit auto makers managed to increase their new- vehicle quality scores by an average of 10% this year despite being rocked by bankruptcies and a worldwide economic recession.

Too late for GM/Chrysler, but hopefully they will stick with it in the future...

Dependability is a little more applicable since it evaluates over a period of 3 years rather than just initial results.

Thanks for this. I am shocked to see Mazda ranked so low (I like the new Mazda 3). Surprised Saab is a bit better than mazda!

It's a bit odd seeing Jaguar doing so well on that list. Also strange to see the disparity between Infiniti and Nissan considering they are the exact same cars sold in other markets (at least prior to the recent introduction of Infiniti in markets outside the US). My Infiniti G35 uses all Nissan parts and is sold as the Nissan 350GT or Nissan Skyline elsewhere.

Jaguar is owned by Tata now. However I agree that under Ford's previous ownership Jaguar greatly improved it's quality issues.

Exactly, look at the graphs again... the dependability study was done over a span of years... the years in which Ford owned Jaguar. Then look at the intitial quality graph, this is when Ford had no part in Jag... yep.

So again, Ford...

I'm not so sure the graphs explain the whole story. Why is Land Rover so low on both graphs? Did Ford not share their secrets with them?
