Heck no! I believe in exchanging value for value. Companies have plenty of opportunities to get private-sector credit and otherwise raise capital when there's a reasonable chance of them pulling themselves out of their hole. When the government has to get involved, it is to tie strings to a dead horse - and we're all paying for it.

As the old saying goes.....they've made their bed, etc., etc. .... No I don't believe any money should be awarded or loaned to the car companies. They should have learned their lessons years ago, instead of manufacturing the same old, tired vehicles--except for making them bigger to suck more gas--there hasn't been any innovation, forwarding thinking, or exceptional ideas, (unless you count putting TVs into them, which is absurd!); just the same old tired designs with short-lived expectation of worthiness. Unfortunately, customers' loans for these vehicles far out-live the dependability of the vehicle. The union workers have priced themselves out of the market, so they need to make some serious concessions if they want to work and continue to have a paycheck; and the over-paid white collar managers-from the CEO on down-should take some REALLY serious paycuts or be shown the door! JMHO!!

No way! What gets my goat is they can charge such incredible amounts (something like 25-G's) for a new car, and then whine and snivel that they "aren't making any money". Then they want Congress to approve bailing them out with, you guessed it, even more of our money!

They need to either figure out a way to make a profit, or else go out of business...plain and simple. That's the way it is with all other companies. If we bale out the car companies, then we should bale out ALL other companies that are in trouble, regardless of whether they make cars, que sticks, or banana pudding. I mean, that would only be fair.
Government should NOT be in the business of subsidizing business...period!

Keep Government out and these things will resolve themselves much quicker and save all us taxpayers from getting screwed. Win/Win

Which would be considered...? Headquartered in the US? I know you mean the Detroit 3 of GM, Ford and Chrysler. Would any with plants in the US count? Would they have to employ a certain number of US workers? What would be the criteria?

Heck no!!!! They are businesses!!! It's THEIR responsibility to make sound decisions, not the governments, it's amazing how socialist we're becoming!!!!! We can not be a capitalist society when things are going well, but socialist when things are bad. On a side note, that would not be fair to businesses who are run well and do make good decisions.
