Ride quality is another consideration. Longer wheelbase=better ride. Riding right over the wheels doesn't help anything. Same with noise.

Something like this would be nice, a bit extended in the front for aero and safety while having less of a hood.

Well, the way I see it: aerodynamics is the main reason for continuing the body shapes we see today, for both automobiles and aircraft. Look at the body designs of F1 and Indi automobiles, or even an air glider (aircraft). The EV battery, or the fuel in the tank of and ICE vehicle allow for longer travel distances the more aerodynamic the vehicle is. Weight/aerodynamics play one of the most important factors in automobile design.

The same principle is used in bullet design for long distance shooting. Of two bullets of the same caliber material and weight, but one with a pointed nose and the other with a blunt nose, the blunt-nose one cannot travel as far as the pointed-nose one.
