A lot of cars are made in Mexico as well as in Canada.

A lot of "foreign" cars are made in USA. It is a globalized industry.

My son's VW was made in Portugal.

A lot of the Ram trucks come from Saltillo Mexico. The Ford Fusion and the Fiesta comes from Hermasillo Mexico. Back in the 60-70s the best Fords came from Canada. GM also has plants in China and Mexico.

And many cars are assembled in one place from parts manufactured in many other places.

I don't think it matters much where the car is assembled.

The assembly plants all use the same manufacturing processes which are highly automated. The quality is maintained by numerous feedback measures that are part of the automated process.

The outdated idea that the American or Mexican worker is lazy and careless in building the car versus the magical perfect Japanese assembler is just crazy talk.

Cars are assembled all over the world, regardless of the nameplate on the hood.

The window stickers show assembly location, as well as major part assembly location (engine, etc), and percentage of domestic parts.... if it concerns you.

It has been this way for a long time. In 1986 I bought a brand new Mercury Cougar and had problems with it from day one. The engine fried at 20,000 miles and I had called Ford hot line so many times I was on a first name basis with the one guy there.

One day he said to me " Let's pull up your car's build sheet and take a look', then he said "This might be the problem, you have the Canadian body with the Mexican engine !" When I told him that I thought I had bought an AMERICAN car , he said "Where have you been, Don, NOTHING is made in AMERICA any more !"

Don

NAFTA has been a major factor in the expansion of the motor vehicle industry in Mexico.

Nissan builds the Sentra in Aguascalientes.
VW has been big there too, most Golfs and Jettas sold in the USA come out of Puebla, I think.

The Sentra is now built in the USA. The Versa is Mexican built.

I would rather have a Mexican built Detroit 3 car than one built by the UAW. Ford was smart when it allowed the Fusion to be built only in Mexico. That car was too important to leave to the slugs of the UAW. The car was a reliable hit, and got a good reputations. Now, unfortunately some Fusions are built here in the US by UAW members. Their quality is down, too.

I was wrong about the Sentra. According to this, they are still made in Mexico:
