I have met the 2 guys who started the Official C5/C6 Registry.Dan and Jake run a real good mag that has a lot of info that may help you decide. The web site is - C5 Corvette Official Registry Registry Home Page. I myself would go with the C5 I believe you will get more bang for your buck. There is a lot of well designed add on out there for the C5.You can make them really run and handle at a decent price.

Started reading over at the C5 forum and someone mentioned the 05-06 GTO.

Actually sounds like a pretty decent vehicle, can be had for the price of an econo-box and is fast.

Horrible wheel hop supposedly and a little porky(3700-3900 pounds) but an alright car.

A little dull in the looks department even with the hood scoops and the car overwhlems the size of the wheels when you look at it from the side.

Still might possibly be an option.

The GTO is a neat car.Has lots of power, and pulls hard when you nail it.A fun car.But not a vette.Someone mentioned a SSR it my have a 6.0L later models.5.3L early ones. But they feel heavy. If you have your heart set on a vette get a vette. If you try to put something different in its place you may soon grow tried or be disappointed in what ever you bought. Then stuck with something you don't want.I've done that a couple of times and my wife will say"should have bought what you wanted the first time".I have blown some large change correcting bad buys.

The C6...that's the one with the 500 hp 427 engine right?

Talk of disgrace.....I think the mid 70's to mid 80's were the worst in terms of power....a stock V6 Grand national could walk all over one with ease.

The C6 Z06 has 505 hp, and is a phenomenal car. However, you're talking more than twice the budget of a used C5 (Z, Vert or Coupe).

In a straight line. While I'm no fan of the C3 and C4, there's much more to a Vette than straight-line acceleration.

The main problem with the C5 (or any Vette for that matter) is the fact there are 50000000 of them just like it on the road. Its the Toyota Camry of sportscars.
