Black is my favorite color. I was thinking of having my car painted black.

What are the pros and cons of having a black car or having it painted black?

Pros:
You like the color

Cons:
Nearly impossible to keep clean
Shows every scratch
Hot in the summer months

I think that black is one of the best looking colors on most vehicles. It just depends on whether or not you're willing to put up with the sacrifices to drive a black vehicle.

I agree completely with 8 Snake.

I have a black 97 VW Golf. Great car. Nice looking car.

But it always looks at least a little dirty.

if you paint you can dry your painting out in a jiffy by putting them on the floor board.

Not only do black cars show the dirt, they show ever swirl mark in a wax job that somebody who doesn't know what he's doing will give it.

Personally I wouldn't own a black car, even if I liked how they looked — and I don't.

I think they do look very good when the paint is in good condition and just after a wash. But I do like dark blue best.

As Snake said, it does show scratches easily and is hard to keep clean. Also hot in the summer buy my black car is garaged.

Only wreck I had was with a black car. It was in the shadows and I didn't see it. It hit me on the side of my car when I crossed the street. I absolutely hate black cars. I could have been killed. Totaled my car. My fault but what can you do when you can't see black in shadows on a sunny day?

I have a black car and tend to have the lights on for the reason the poster above raised, though I think that cars that are the same colour as the road surface (grey) are harder to pick up.

I think it tends to hide the dirt pretty well unlike the white car I had years ago.

Black does show the scratches though.

Does black metallic paint hide dirt, scratches, and wax swirl marks better?

I think black looks best on big cars, with a little bit of chrome or white walled tires to set it off.

Black looks fantastic when it is clean and especially when the light hits it just right. It is like a mirror. But sometimes that mirror is a nightmare to keep it clean. Everything shows up on it - even a light 'cover' of dust will undermine its appearance. I usually end up washing my black car every 2 weeks or so.

Here's mine (about 3 days later it didn't shine like this ):
