bad batch of gas? I think you need a new mechanic.
Yes, that was a generic response from somebody who was too ignorant or too lazy to address the actual problem. A good cleaning of the IAC, (idle air control valve) and the throttle body has a good chance of fixing this problem.
That wont be the problem, but you should fill it up. Honda's pretty much always run the same if all is well. You need to take it in. If you have limited mechanical abilities, I'd recommend changing the plugs, wires, and air filter your self. (honda parts!!). I didn't see you mention the milage. A 2000 accord is a recent car (to me, my daily is a 96 accord!), it should be running well. If it has 150k thats a different story, it may need o2 sensors or anything really. Check engine light on? how many miles? Done all the services? Bad gas is a possibility, but pretty unlikely. Let it run almost all the way out and top with new gas. If you have 100k+ and never changed the fuel filter, Id do that too.
edit - Its fuel injection, id have someone else change the fuel filter, if youve never done one,
Plugs, wires and fuel filter and etc. are extremely unlikely to address this problem which is idle speed control.
I have the same problem with my Honda. It's annoying. I replaced my fuel pump on Saturday and thought the problem was fixed. Not until last night when I tried to start the car it won't stay on. I gassed it at 1000 rmp and then it stayed on. I've been to several mechanic and no one knows what the problem is. All they did was changed parts and emptied my pocket. I changed the EGR valve the throttle body new evap system all 6 coils new battery new crank shaft sensor. Nothing seems to fix the issue. Help
Time to take a whole different approach as what you have done so a far has wasted a lot of money. Any knowledgeable honda mechanic could have told you the fuel pump is not the problem. How about this suggestion: first diagnose, and only after diagnosis replace parts?
How refreshing to see a knowledgeable and to-the-point response!
