I had my front brakes replaced less then 6 months ago at brake max
I have an 2011 Toyota corolla
recently my steering wheel is shaking when I hit the brake
do you know what that could be.....
I was told its my Rotors
do you know how much this is to fix
thanks nancy
Yes the front rotors will need to be machined if they still can be and this should have been done when you had your brakes replaced but at this time you would be looking at around $100.00.
Rotors can heat and warp causing this condition. They must be turned, and reinstalled with new pads. The best rotor is after being heated and then turned. Todays castings coming out of China are inferior in my opinion and should be avoided if a higher quality is available.
There are other possibilities. It could be due to a worn suspension or steering component in the front suspension.
Most often it's due to "warped" rotors. Rotors that become heated tend to acrue uneven deposits of pad friction material on the surface which give you that heavy pulse feeling under hard braking.
But you can't rule out a worn/damaged suspension component causing the issue as well. Hard to properly diagnose over the net.
Cost depends on where you do. DIY can do the entire job for $100, but paying a shop to do it could run anywhere from $300-500 depending on the shop or dealership.
You could either machine the rotors and install new pads, or install new rotors and pads.
I had the same thing happen at Mr. Tire. My brakes were fine, they convinced me to get them done, I did as I was about to go on a cross country trip. Halfway through the trip I get the shuddering when braking, take the car back to Mr. Tire when I got back and they warrantied the work.
Sounds like the rotors (other things to look: suspension, tire alignment), but it will most likely not be as low as $100 to fix (unless you're good friends with your mechanic). I'd figure twice that, easily.

Be sure to go back to Brake Max. There may be a warranty or some other consideration. At LEAST they will give you a free estimate.
You'd be surprised how often i've seen loose lugs cause vibrations
