Many years ago I drove a '69 Custom 88. It was marvelous.
that is a really nice car you've had, did your 1969 '88 have the 350 or the 455 V8? I consider 1969 to be one of the pinnacle years of the American automotive industry.
By 69 there was very little difference in the ride and sound quality between a Lincoln and a Grand Marquis. Both were the exceptional luxury cars of the day with the Mercury a better luxury car than the Caddies but no where near the price tag. Today it's a completely different story with Lincoln just barely a luxury car and Caddy a real contender. My mom had an Olds and I can give you a direct comparison between the Grand Marquis and the Olds- the Grand Marquis is a much better driving car and tons quieter on the road. Make mine a Grand Marquis.
Anybody remember the Grand Marquis blind test where they blindfolded riders and had them ride in the Grand Marquis and other luxury cars of the day? They also has commercials about the ride quality using a glass of water. It was an advanced car back in the day.

455, baby.
Rumor has it that a guy could burn rubber for a city block. But that, of course, is just a rumor...

Not even in yer wettest, wildest dream. In the Olds 98 in 69, the advertised HP was 365. But the Feds made the auto makers change their ratings to what was actually in the car with all of the accessories strapped on. That same exact engine fell to 225HP in 1971 and the 2 barrel version fell to 185HP. The standard axle ratio was a blistering (LOL) 2.56:1 and the car weighed in at 4300 lbs. Add that to an already bloated steel pig and yer not burning rubber much if at all.....unless you use gas and a match.
No Fleetwood Brougham, Lebaron, Continental, or even Ambassador?
I'd probably go with the Electra 225 or Bonneville.
