I was thinking about this a while back... Since all cars (especially SUV's) look pretty much the same these days, you could add a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi badge to the back of your vehicle and few people would know it was fake!
Get the class without the expense!
I always wanted to put 2 x 4 on my truck instead of 4 x 4. (2 x 4 as in lumber / construction.)
I knew someone that put a Z28 badge on a V6 Camaro. The car looked like a Z28, luckily nobody ever challenged him to a race.
A friend of mine bought one just like that (it was used). He didn't even know it wasn't a real Z28 for a couple years until eventually a quickie-lube guy pointed out it had a V6. He had to point out - and count - the six spark plug wires. And the emissions label under the hood confirmed it as well.

When they run the VIN at DMV or at the insurance agent, it should have rang up as a V6
None of this seemed fishy to your friend?
Get some LT badges from e-auction site to upgrade your basic Chevy & GMC trucks, will probably get you a few extra bucks at trade in, can bet the salesperson would not really know the difference between a LT and a WT

Reminds me of a guy I know who had an '04 Silverado that the previous owner had put some SS badges on, lowered it a little, put on some 20" wheels and a Flowmaster exhaust. The poor guy would swear up and down that the truck was a true Silverado SS even though it was missing the SS bumpers, bodykit, leather seats, gauge cluster and most importantly, the 6.0L motor.
When I lived in Australia I would always be amused when I saw Aussies remove Holden badges and replace them with Chevy or another US brand.
In carland, is the grass greener across the ocean?
Here I've seen people take of their Tacoma badges and put on Hilux. I'm partially guilty too; when I got my FJ Cruiser (which I no longer have) I added "Land" to the name so it could be a "Landcruiser".
Some say it's vanity, some just think the car company picked a dumb name for a chunk of metal and plastic they otherwise like. We aren't required to stick with exactly what left the factory.
On my Jeep I took off ALL the badges. I never call it a "Wrangler" either. Maybe I'll fool everyone into thinking it's something else.
