a friend of mine totalled her 4runner while towing a 6x12 trailer (stupid u-haul in louisiana let her get away with it while my bf wasnt allowed to do it in austin for safety issues and he was using a suburban). she really needs a new used car and we havent found any yet at that price in texas. anyone who knows of any, please PM me. thanks!

she didnt know that that size trailer was too much for the 4runner to tow, but uhaul supposedly should know the standards. my bf wasnt allowed to tow that size by uhaul in austin even when he was driving a suburban. i guess not all centers have that policy. the 4runner tipped to its side. thankfully my friend and her son werent injured and they didnt hit anyone.
It isn't the size, it's the total weight and the class of hitch that is installed on the vehicle. A 2002 and up 4Runner should be good for 5000 lbs with the V6, 7000 with the V8.

To me that sounds like your friend shoudl have researched what she was doing, before she did it. Nothing to do with being Uhaul's fault.

my bf is an experienced hauler and didnt even know that his suburban is still too lightweight for that size trailer. if the uhaul in austin advised him not to do so, how come the one in lousiana didnt? granted, my friend should've done her research ahead, and im surprised she didnt on this one, but then again, the staff in louisiana should have some policies on that as well to keep them from being liable themselves.

A 6x12 trailer is pretty small, any SUV should handle that unless the trailer was grossly overloaded. I've towed a Uhaul car hauler loaded up with a 1/2 ton Suburban with no problems. This one isn't Uhaul's fault.
You'll find all over the country there is a serious shortage of used cars in that price range. The economy sh*thole were happily continuing on has actually driven up the cost of affordable used cars. Why can't your friend apply for an Obamacar?
LOL, a Suburban being too small to tow a 6X12 trailer. BS! Doesn't sound like your BF is "an experienced hauler" at all if he bought that line of crap from a U-Haul lackey. Like others have said it isn't the size of the trailer, it is the load that makes the difference.
Sounds like your friend overloaded a trailer and then didn't drive like you should while pulling a trailer. Stop blaming U-Haul.
