I know it is a 1987 S10 but any reason the Check Engine light would come on for a few seconds and then go off when a. I drive it for a little while or b. I push about 65 mph.

This is AFTER a complete tune up, PCV Valve change, Fuel Cleaning. When cold, the truck takes a little bit of push on the gas to start right up and then it idles a TAD rough then it settles in after about a second or two.

Have you had the fuel pump checked?

Nope. Didn't know where to turn after the fuel cleaning and tune up. If that's a possible cause, I will have it checked.

Take it to a car parts store and have them put a code reader on it (this is free).

You should have the ECM scanned for "stored/history" codes to see what triggered the CEL.

Just use a paperclip, stick each end in the upper right two pins of the ALDL port. The check engine light will flash a code 12, then any other stored codes. I do this when I need to check the codes on my '87 Trans Am.

Ah, gotcha. Because Chevy told me they'd need to drive it around until it comes up so they can read the code..

I was going to say you can do the paperclip on am 87.

Honestly its probably a bad ground on a sensor that is corrodi.g.

If your dash lights come on when you start your car it's the normal "polling" of the lights, and their sensors, by the computer to see if they still work ok.

When a light comes on after you start your car and stay on then you have cause for concern.

Yep, I had to solder on several new sensor connectors because the old originals were shorting. I kept getting a IAT code on my '87 Trans Am, but a new sensor didn't fix it, turned out to be the connector. The wiring gets fragile on a vehicle over 20 years old.
