Top Gear UK is available on BBCA, which most cable providers offer, some even in HD. Just last season, they stopped truncating the episodes, and the downtime between the original UK air date and US air date is very minimal.
I totally agree with the idea that US car shows suck in general, but supporting the half-decent ones in hopes they'll make them better doesn't make a lot of sense. Supporting mediocrity only breeds more mediocrity. Need proof? Turn on any other mindless popular US program and see how many copycats there are (e.g. American Idol, X Factor, The Voice, blah blah blah).
Off topic, but another GREAT car program (again, from the UK) is Wheeler Dealer. They show re-runs of it on Velocity (previously HD Theater). It's no where near as much about entertainment as Top Gear is, but it's a great alternative to the DIY shows we currently get that only want to show you how to bolt on the product of whatever sponsor they have that day. The guys from Wheeler Dealer also had a show called Auto Trader that you can occasionally find re-runs of, and it's a great one as well.
I watched the US version one time. I have never seen the English version. Figured if the American one was that bad then maybe it wasn't worth watching either. Good to hear that both shows are not the same. I will have to see if I can find the English version of the show.
US Top Gear would be a lot better if they dumped Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood. They need to bring in some real car guys like Tim Allen, Jay Leno, or Adam Corolla.

Yeah I've always thought Tim Allen was a logical choice for the US version.
