I disagree with you all as I would love to have a driverless car. I could go out to the bar and not have to ever worry about getting a DUI.

As much as I enjoy driving myself (and I love driving) I cant argue with the fact that a well developed self driving system will save more lives than it puts at risk. This doesn't take into account the benefit to traffic congestion and the environment. It would be selfish of me to ignore the benefits simply because I love driving.

Ever heard of a cab? They are these big yellow things with four wheels.

I too have a fear of the technology reaching a point where it is mandated by government, and we lose our freedom to operate our vehicles ourselves.

That said, there are a lot of other benefits. Long distance trips would be possible without having to be awake and alert. Elderly people who are not capable of safely operating a vehicle anymore would still have the freedom of private transportation to get around. Etc.

I can drive my car to and from the LV strip for no more than $1 in gas. A round trip cab ride would be $30, so they are not an option.

Yep, it is only 4 miles round trip, yet it costs that much. This why I just stay home as I cannot afford it. I will not dare to ever drink and drive again, but I would absolutely love if my car could be my own personal chauffeur.

That's horrendous. 4 mile cab ride here is $12, max.

They should have some sort of locals pricing.

Let alone funeral processions.

I'm sure there will be some sort of sensor that will slam on the brakes if a child runs into the road. But will it do the same if a harmless plastic shopping bag blows in front of it?
