I'm going to go with the guys saying to look at the Mustang, even the V6 version is pretty good.
the BMW carries the badge, but it's actually not all that nice to be in, as BMW has cheapened out on design and materials vs theri older cars. Even an early '00s E46 3 series feels better to drive and be in (driven both extensively). The Camaro looks cool, but it's not as fun to drive, and it's hard to see out of (though if you really like the looks, you'll put up with that).
Everybody I know (including myself) has started to have odd and expensive repairs with BMW's once they hit 80-90k. I love German cars, but I think I would only get one if it was new/practically new.
The 3 series can be pretty basic if not optioned up. The 2001 325xi I had had all the packages. I recently went to look at a 2008 328i and was shocked at how basic that one was. You'll love driving the BMW, but may feel like more of a rock star in the Camaro.
I got a kick out of the contrast in your car choices.....until I realized I was just trying to decide between a Mustang GT and a Mercedes C-300. The Merc won out since I have kids and need 4 doors for work. One of these days though I will have a Mustang GT......BTW, I am starting to see 2010 GT's for about $22-25k. That is a lot of car for the money. Granted the Camaro looks a little better, but every magizine I have read (even Consumer Reports!) says the Mustang is the better car.
Go with your gut and let us know what you picked!!
Pretty large price jump you're suggesting there though. The new 5.0L Mustang is what, $35k?
The 08 328i can be found all the way down to $22-24k within the mileage he wants.
I pointed that out in my post as well. We're not talking V8 Camaro's or Mustangs, but V6's given the price point he is at and the desire to buy the Camaro new. A used Mustang GT can be picked up at that price...maybe, a used Camaro SS, but that's pushing it.

For most people this is probably good advice. But... I bought my 1998 740iL with 143k miles on it, and now, 4 years later, it has 180k on it and it's still pretty much my daily driver and has cost me very little to own. The other car I drive regularly now (for a littl while at least) is my stepson's 2002 325i that has almost 250k miles on it. Great car (and I like it more than the 2010 328i and 335i I drove recently).

a new v6 Mustang manual trans can be had for $20k.. 305 hp too. Excellent car
thanks everyone, youve been helpful and knowledgeable
im gonna check out some mustangs tomorrow. it seems like its as nice as the camaro but with better visibility which is important since i live in queens and driving is the worst. i just like the way the bmw looks but your all right that new mustang is sick. probably better to get something newer anyway this car is gonna get put to test on my commute to the bronx everyday
Are you talking about the $75K Camaro? You can't get one. You've been elbowed out of line by the millionaires who whined and whined until they got the tax cut, which they are using to buy one. You don't get one, you just get to pay for one, with your income tax, which subsidizes the rich, so they can either create jobs or buy new Camaros. Guess which one they choose? (Hint: the red one.)

Obviously no one here is discussing the $75K Camaro, whichever one you're referring to. Your post was an obvious but poor segue into your political rant. Take it to the politics forum.
