You mean the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) building? The one where the exterior is made out of weird shapes.

Federation Square, is either loved or hated.

Personally I love it. It is actually a very large building, great central meeting spot. I love the design of it. I love the big screen, the bars surrounding the square..

plus if you ever saw what was there before..... you'd love it too.

Melbourne was rated as the safest city in Australia, an with much less crime than Sydney, Sydney streets are always packed, maybe because there are no trams in Sydney, Melbourne however has the world's largest tram network, and every train in Melbourne has Air Con, over 90% of Sydney trains don't have Air Con, the Sydney Monorail doesn't even have Air Con.

Melbourne is the cultural capital of Australia, the fashion capital of Australia and the sports capital of the world.

Sydney is just crime land, Kings Cross is the worst place in Australia, the west i much worse than any of Melbourne.

I work for the Government, i know the facts![/quote]

You work for the Government and you know squat!

Sydney is crime land..pfft please, so if your'e an indian you won't get bashed..no?
where was the first series of underbelly filmed? does Carl Wlliams ring a bell?
remember when people where being gunned down in broad daylight in cafes and on the street?

Melbourne is the cultural centre...if you think Melbourne you obviously don't have very low standards.
Sporting capital of the world?..what are you smoking????
Sydney 2000 Olympics try and top that!

Even Brisbane has a much bigger network. From memory, the total freeway km's in Sydney is around 200km while Melbourne is 350km or so.

We have 2 types of trains here with 3 abreast seating, it is annoying when trying to get up. Thankfully the Seimens trains (which run on the Pakenham line) have 2x2 seating. The face to face seats have ridiculously little legroom though, you are literally interlocking legs with the person across from you

Serious, so you have to pay $3.20 to get off at the next station, a 3 or 4 minute trip in most cases? Here I can get a daily concession for $5.60, from zone 2, which is good value considering it can be used unlimited on any public transport in Melbourne for the entire day.

Funnily enough I've only been asked to show my ticket only once in the last 6 months.

Another thing that really grinds my gears is the lack of use of existing infrastructure. The Pakenham line (which I use) has passing loops at Oakleigh, Westall and Dandenong, yet my evening express train is forced to crawl behind a stopper. WHat would make sense is let the express overtake the stopper at Oakleigh, as it leaves a mere 6 minutes before the express from Flinder's Street. and as such by the time it reaches Oakleigh, the express is literally 1 station's gap behind it. Even a 5 year old could work this out. It is retarded beyond belief.
So you haven't answered my question which leads me to believe that you've never been to Sydney in your entire life?!?

I have been to Sydney. It has a bridge and opera house, than several hundred square miles of western urban sprawl.

How is Sydney culturally superior to Melbourne? Maybe in the glitzy Hollywood type of culture.

Melbourne had the Olympics before Sydney in 1956. It's sporting facilities are world class, and it hosts world-class events like the Australian Open.
